BNS, BNSS, and BSA
BNS, BNSS, and BSA are new laws in India that replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act (IEA) respectively.
These laws became effective on July 1, 2024.
BNS
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: This law replaced the IPC.
Stages of crime: The stages of crime under BNS are:
Intention to commit an offense
Preparation to commit crime
Attempt to commit crime
Commission of the offense
BNSS
Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita: This law replaced the CrPC.
Plea bargain: An accused can file an application for a plea bargain under Section 290 of BNSS.
In-absentia trial: The BNSS allows for the trial of proclaimed offenders in absentia under certain conditions.
BSA
Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam: This law replaced the IEA.
